                 I CAN'T GO HOME

I can't go home, 'cause the bar's still open
And I don't know when to leave
Till the music stops and the lights go up
And the girls won't dance with me
There ain't nobody waitin', and no place I've got to be
I can't go home
I can't go home

Everybody knows my reputation,
I'm always runnin' 'round
'Cause there's always something goin' on
somewhere else in town
As long as there's a good time waiting anywhere for me
I can't go home
I can't go home

I can shake a leg, I can cut a rug
     I'm a certified dancin' fool
I can slow it down and hold 'em tight,
the way a woman loves to do

But I can't go home, 'cause the bar's still open
And I don't know when to leave
'Till the music stops and the lights go up
And the girls won't dance with me
There ain't nobody waitin', and no place I've got to be
I can't go home
I can't go home

I can't go home

HONKY-TONK OPERA
IF I KNEW AN ANGEL
QUEEN OF THE NEON
OUT OF THE QUESTION
THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY
EMPTY BOTTLES
I'LL LET THE JUKEBOX DO MY TALKIN'
A WOMAN LIKE THAT
HONEY, DON'T YOU DARE
THE RECIPE
JESUS IN A BOTTLE
I CAN'T GO HOME

Notes

Leon has a place 'out in the country', just past where Grandpa Jones used to live . . . We started this at his place, with my title, and we worked the lyric together, with my music.  I later did several rewrites, mostly musical, with just some tweaking of the lyric.  It's pretty much autobiographical . . .
about my love of dancing, and my compulsion to stay until the places close . . .
